Killeen ISD is issuing a follow-up to the district’s earlier communication about possible student walkouts to ensure families and staff understand expectations and consequences.
KISD supports student expression that is safe, respectful, and does not interrupt instruction. Families may wish to discuss alternatives to walkouts with their student, such as: passive expression (wearing a specific color of clothing, wristband, or button, as permitted by the Killeen ISD dress code), writing a letter or email to an elected official such as a member of Congress, or participating in discussions or community events outside of school hours.
The Texas Education Agency issued guidance to school districts on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, reinforcing that districts must protect instruction during the school day and follow state law and attendance requirements. Killeen ISD will follow this guidance.
In Killeen ISD, the focus remains on student safety and keeping students engaged in learning.
As a reminder, secondary campuses in Killeen ISD are closed campuses. Students may not leave campus during the school day without being signed out by a parent/guardian through the front office.
Any student who participates in a walkout will be marked absent and receive discipline consequences under attendance and truancy policies, as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
Under Killeen ISD policy FNCI(Legal), disruptive activity on school property include actions such as obstructing entrances, exits, or hallways or interfering with school operations. Student behavior that meets this definition will result in disciplinary consequences, including up to a Class B misdemeanor under the Texas Education Code § 37.123.
Killeen ISD respects student free speech and want students to be heard in ways that are safe, respectful, and appropriate during the school day. KISD thanks families for their partnership in keeping campuses safe and focused on learning.

In March, we will be celebrating Read across America, and the theme is “create & Celebrate a Nation of Diverse Readers” We would love to fill the library with words from cultures around the world. If you, or someone you know lives outside of Texas or the United States, we would love a post card addressed to the students of Reeces Creek Elementary!
You are never too young (or too old!) to get cozy and read a book! Our pre-k students in Mrs. Williams' class made themselves at home in the library and got comfortable while reading! We loved seeing it!
Mrs. Gidden’s class listened to the story “Butterflies Are Pretty….Gross” in the library on Thursday learning fun and unusual facts about butterflies. They then had the opportunity to explore real butterfly samples thanks to the Texas Wildlife Association’s Discovery Trunks!

Students in Ms. Cussimanio's class connected their reading with math and creativity by creating their very own covered wagons!
Third graders in Mrs. Lopez’s class had a sweet math lesson with twizzlers, pretzels and marshmallows to help them with fraction on a number line. The marshmallows serving as their point on the number line.
Did you know directed drawings are more than just fun? They also help children learn to sequence, strategize/plan, and build their confidence. In the library last week students got to practice these skills by drawing dragons alongside Mrs. Polm.
Everyday should start with a smile and a hello! in Mrs. Marcotte's first grade classroom student greeters, greet their fellow students each morning. This simple act builds empathy, relationships, and confidence! Great job Mrs. Marcotte's class!
Students in Mrs. Arbaugh's Gardening Club have been hard at work preparing the garden for planting come spring! We can't wait to see the results of their hard work!
Tutoring Invitations are coming home TODAY! Please return by January 22nd. Tutoring begins Jan. 27-April 1st. Not all students will receive one, it's a very small group of 5 per class that were invited. We are NOT excepting Parent Requests currently.
